About Bio-Tech Department

Welcome to Bio-Tech Department of Annada College

The department of Biotechnology at Annada College,hazaribag was established in 2008, since then it takes an active part in teaching at undergraduate level in the biotech programme. It is a three year vocational degree program.

The Biotechnology course has the sole aim to impart skill-based intensive training through classroom teaching, interactive discussions, acquisition of knowledge of handling sophisticated equipment and data storage/analysis, all of which will pave the way for job avenues in areas of agriculture, environment, pharmaceuticals, bioinformatics, biofuel and other biotech industries.

This deartment continues to channelize the students to get absorbed in various national reputed institutes and universities for higher studies.

The laboratory of this department is fully air conditioned and well equipped with all the necessary instruments required for biotech practicals and various research activities.

Most importantly ,the department is having highly qualified faculties,whose constant effort and guidelines make the students compatible to opt their better carrier in life ahead.

In short we can say that within this small town, this department provides an inspiring environment where education goes hand in hand with interaction with society.

Number of Seats

The total no. of seats in Biotechnology is 40 (forty) out of which 05 (five) seats are reserved for NRI students. Reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC will be followed as per the rules and regulations of Vinoba Bhave University Hazaribag.

Fee Structure

1. Rs. 24,000/- (Twenty Four Thousand) only per annum (Excluding Examinations and registration fees)

2. US $ 1,000/- (One Thousand) only

Selection Procedure

A candidate who has passed I.Sc./+2 examination with Biology and has obtained 45% marks in aggregate is eligible for the course. Appearing candidates may also apply, however, they must submit their marksheet before the admission.

An entrance test of 90 minutes duration will be held. It will comprise of multiple choice/fill in the blanks type questions in the following sections:

Section I:      35 Marks
Botany and Zoology (I.Sc./+2 level as per CBSE syllabus)
Section II:      35 Marks
Chemistry and Physics (I.Sc./+2 level as per CBSE syllabus)
Section I:      35 Marks
Mathematics (Matriculation level as per CBSE syllabus) & Current Affairs)
N.B.- Negative marking : Half of the total marks of each question will be deducted for each wrong answer.

Botany (+2 Standard)
1. Plant Kingdom: Classification and diversity.
2. Morphology of Angiosperm: Root, stem, leaf, inflorescence, flower, fruit and seed
3. Anatomy of Angiosperm: Meristem, tissue, tissue system, secondary growth.
4. Embryology of Angiosperm : Microsporogenesis, Megasporogenesis, Embryogeney, Endosperm
5. Diversity of Microorganisms: Bacteria, Cyanobacteria, Mycoplasma, Virus; Economic importance of microorganisms
6. Diversity of lower plants: Algae (Spirogyra, Ulothrix, Nostoc), Fungi (Mucor, Scaccharomyces), Bryopyta (Riccia, Funaria), Pteridophyta (Selaginella, Fern), Gymnosperm (Cycas, Pinus)
7. Genetics: Mendel's laws of inheritance, linkage, crossing over, interaction of genes, mutation
8. Molecular biology: DNA-structure and function; Genetic code
9. Plant physiology: Diffusion, osmosis, imbibition, absorption of water, transpiration enzymes, respiration, photosynthesis, growth hormones.
10. Ecology: Ecosystem, environmental pollution
11. Application biology: Biofertilizer, Biotechnology (tissue culture, genetic engineering), bioenergy
